Probe starts after attack outside shop

AN investigation has been launched by police after two men were shot in the East End yesterday morning. Three men, aged 28, 31 and 55 had been sitting inside a whitecoloured Transit Ford Van outside the ‘ One Stop Shop’ on Tollcross Road before the vehicle was shot at.

Both the 28- year- old and

55- year- old men were taken to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary for treatment to their injuries. The 31- year- old man was left uninjured.

The pair have since been released from hospital.

The shooting has left residents in the area shocked, with one worker at neighbouring business revealing their horror following the incident.

He said: “It’s horrible. To do that in the middle of the street, too.

“It’s not good for us and it’s not good for any of the people who live around here or might have been taking their kids to school.”

One resident of a nearby housing estate told how she heard a loud bang early this morning.

“We were getting ready just before 8 o’clock and I heard a big bang,” she said.

“I thought it was a tyre bursting but my son said it was too loud to be that. Then I joked that it had been a shooting but that’s what it looks like now.”

A police cordon was set up on the East End thoroughfare between the Fullarton Park Hotel and the roundabout at the end of Tollcross Road.

Forensics teams were seen scouring the area outside the convenience store where the shots were fired.

CID, said: “This was a completely dangerous and reckless act which resulted in two men receiving medical treatment.

“We are still trying to establish a motive for this incident and a team of officers are conducting CCTV and local inquiries to try and gain further information and identify the person or persons involved.

“There is an increased police presence in the area and

I urge anyone with information or any concerns to speak to the officers who will be happy to assist.

“Anyone who was in the vicinity of Tollcross Road around 7.40am this morning or anyone who may have driven past at this time and may have captured the incident on their dash cam is asked to contact police at Shettleston via 101.”
