‘Sorry ... but I’m getting fed up’

-

GLASGOW has reacted with dismay to the news Scotland’s third national lockdown will be extended, with many blaming others for not following the rules.

Jackie Boyle said: “Well I am sorry but I have been doing everything that [Nicola Sturgeon] has said and I am getting fed up with it.

“I’ve not been out since November, so come on, give us some true words.”

Our readers reacted to the First Minister’s announcement that the legally enforceable stay-athome order across mainland Scotland would remain in force until the middle of February – and hit out at people not following the rules.

One Glasgow Times reader said the extended restrictions were “the result of people not sticking to the rules”.

She added: “The virus spreads through contact; you stop moving people and bam, the virus is dead. It’s that simple. Look at Melbourne.”

After a strict national lockdown, Australia recorded nine new Covid cases on January 19, compared with 1165 new cases in Scotland today.

Others questioned whether the country was really in lockdown at all, commenting on traffic levels higher than what was seen in the first lockdown in March.

Grant Lennie said: “What lockdown? Have you seen how busy the roads and streets are?”

Saša Pirie was exasperated with the rate the government has rolled out the coronavirus vaccine.

He said: “No surprises here. We’ll be locked down until f ****** October at the shambolic rate they are distributing this vaccine.”
