- BY MAXINE MCARTHUR

AGLASGOW university student has gone viral with her response to safety concerns over the coronavirus vaccine. Chloe Christie, who is in her final year of studying microbiology with a specialism in viruses at the University of Glasgow, decided to share her experience of the science behind the vaccination after spotting numerous false rumours about its content and effectiveness online.

The 22-year-old received thousands of likes and hundreds of comments after her post, which was shared in the Facebook group Gal Pals, and kind messages from women who had been fearful of receiving the jab prior to hearing from Chloe.

She said: “Just recently I’ve seen a big spike in people talking about the vaccine negatively.

“I saw a girl posting in the Facebook group asking should she get it and a lot of people in the comments were pro-vaccine but really aggressive about it, so I thought it’s not really a good way to change people’s minds.

“I just thought I would give people as many facts as I can to help people make their own minds them.

Chloe, who is originally from Bellshill in North Lanarkshire, felt much of the scientific advice has been riddled with complicated jargon making it hard for people to understand.

Through speaking with friends and family, the student discovered many women her age had fears over potential fertility issues, an unfounded link to autism and the speed at which the jab had been pushed through. up without berating

In her post, Chloe showcased evidence against any potential autism correlation, claims of immunity and a detailed analysis of ingredients within the vaccine.

“I think a lot of scientists expect people to read the research papers and that’s not fun, even for students,” she said.

“I was really worried people would think I was being condescending but I’ve had a lot of messages from people who were on the fence saying I’ve eased their minds.”
