Barking mad Powers keeps United boys entertained

- IAIN COLLIN

MARC McNULTY thinks Dillon Powers is barking mad – after revealing his Dundee United team-mate yelps like a dog before matches.

The American midfielder has emerged as one of the biggest characters in the Tannadice dressing room, with yoga and upside-down meditation among his passions.

McNulty said: “We were in the hotel having out pre-match before playing Livingston and a couple of the boys were having a coffee and we look over and say ‘who’s that?’ And it was Dillon, standing on his head, doing all his stretching. He’s into his yoga and stuff like that.

“One of the things we have a bit of banter about – and I don’t know if this is an American thing or what – is before games, he does a loud dog noise. Like a bark – ‘Woof!’

“I don’t know if that’s just to get a reaction from the boys or what, but it’s funny. He loves it.

“But Dill is an absolutely great guy and understands a lot about the game.

"When you sit and chat to him, you realise how much he focuses on the game – but he’s bonkers!”

Meanwhile, McNulty admits he has a growing passion for the coaching side of the game and is already planning to attain his first badge in the summer. He continued: “When you are younger you just focus on playing and I just wanted to score goals and play football.

“I didn’t really take that much interest in the game; stuff like how you set up, formations and things like that.

“It is not until you get older and work under managers that you see the different ways they work. You pick up on things. I am looking to possibly do my B Licence in the summer.”
