It’s time to boost city’s spending on cleansing

- Graham Via email

INOTE the SNP talking about fly-tipping issues in Govanhill and the threeweekly collection in the north-west of the city (Council insist bin collection scheme is working well, January 22).

Govanhill has been a hot spot for the past 10 years. As a citizen and taxpayer, why don’t they vote in the next budget to increase resources for cleansing? In respect of the three-weekly system, will Councillor Richardson guarantee to provide an extra bin to big families and houses in extra occupancy or will they have to take waste to recycling depots (which we know won’t happen)?

I think council officials are pulling the wool over her eyes. Name and address supplied

THE decision by the UK Government to stretch the gap between injections of the vaccine from 21 days to 12 weeks has been criticised by the BMA and other medical experts. It would appear that the major reason for this lengthy gap is merely to boost the figures and make the Government look good.

It has the appearance of yet another deadly blunder by this Government and this could prove to be the daddy of them all.

I HAVE neither the right nor the inclination to change Mr Cox’s mind on constitutional matters, however basing it on the perceived competence of one particular individual I’d argue is flawed (Letters, January 22).

The First Minister has many virtues – being hard-working, diligent and a clear communicator are but three. In comparison to the Prime Minister, she certainly appears more authoritative. However, that leads to aspects of their respective characters. The First Minister is by nature a more authoritarian individual, the Prime Minister is a libertarian. Don’t believe that? How often does a Scottish minister take press briefings? Why is that? Are they not trusted? Are they not competent? In London you’ll see cabinet ministers facing the media, why not here?

How many SNP decisions are taken at the First Minister and SNP chief executive level? The current situation regarding the former First Minister notwithstanding. It’s interesting to see that questions are being asked and the First Minister appears uncharacteristically less sure-footed when questioned by the media and MSPs. Her desire to get this pandemic under control and keeping people safe is not in doubt to my eyes, however the twin whammy of monomania on constitutional issues and a lack of competence of her ministers and party is not helping anyone.
