- BY CONNOR GORDON

ATHUG abducted his lover and sprayed her with fake tan after she dumped him. John Higgins, 57, turned on the woman at his flat in Glasgow’s Tollcross in October 2019.

He grabbed her by the hair and ripped off the woman’s necklace during the ordeal.

Higgins also spat in a frying pan while dinner was being made and put it in the bin.

He pleaded guilty yesterday at Glasgow Sheriff Court to abduction, assault, damaging property and a breach of bail.

The court heard of an incident at the woman’s home in the city’s Barlanark in August 2019.

Higgins hurled verbal abuse and repeatedly seized the woman by the arms before he smashed a window.

The hysterical woman fled the scene and ended the relationship.

But, they were together in Higgins’s flat in Tollcross where she repeated that they were over.

Prosecutor Emily Macreath said: “He became angry and locked the door.

“The woman asked to leave, but he refused saying that she could leave only if he went with her.

“He forced her to remain on a seat. He then grabbed her neck chain causing it to snap. Higgins followed the woman into the kitchen holding a can of spray tan in his hand.

“He then sprayed it over the woman’s face and hair.

“Higgins also spat in a frying pan the woman had made dinner in and put this in the bin.”

Sheriff John McCormick deferred sentence until next month for background reports and remanded Higgins meantime.

The sheriff said: “This was serious domestic offending.

“This involved you locking (the woman) in your home, not allowing her to leave and assaulting her while on bail for similar offending.”
