McAllister full of praise for Rangers team ethic

- CHRIS JACK

GARY MCALLISTER praised the team effort from Rangers as Steven Gerrard celebrated his 100th win as Ibrox boss with victory over St Johnstone.

The Ibrox club moved another step closer to the Premiership title as Ianis Hagi netted the only goal of the game to see off the Saints on Wednesday night.

Rangers are now potentially just six wins away from their first league crown in a decade and assistant manager McAllister was pleased to see the century milestone being hit.

McAllister said: “I think we are getting close to loads of records and the stats and the win percentage, I don’t need to tell you guys, is very high.

“It shows the level of job that he has produced here, but he will say and I will say and the players will say that it has been about everybody. It is not just about Steven and he won’t be taking the acclaim for that.

“It is a whole team effort and it is credit to everyone that has been on this journey.”

Rangers had to sweat it out in the final stages as St Johnstone looked to deny them the win that restored a 23-point advantage over Celtic at the top of the table.

There was an early scare for the Ibrox club as Kemar Roofe was shown a yellow card for a rash challenge on Murray Davidson that later forced the midfielder off through injury.

Roofe was perhaps fortunate only to pick up a booking from match official David Munro but McAllister said: “I thought the referee had a good view of the situation and taking into account the player, knowing the player and the type of player that he is, I think the referee has seen it as a yellow.

“He mis-controlled it, tried to retrieve it and the referee has seen it as a yellow.”
