- BY CATRIONA STEWART

ATHUG threatened a carpet fitter with a metal bar after returning to a flat he was evicted from. Rafal Kobos returned to his former property looking to collect his belongings only to be told by the workman that his flatmate had already picked them up.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that the 32-year-old lost his temper and stormed off, threatening to return.

When Kobos came back to the property he was carrying a metal bar.

The prosecutor told the court on Wednesday that Kobos flew into a rage and began shouting and threatening the carpet fitter.

Meanwhile, a friend who had attended with him tried to calm the situation.

The prosecutor said: “The accused stated he would be back in five minutes.

“He then returned a short time later and the witness observed the accused to have a metal bar in his hand.

“He was shouting, f **** my stuff?

“’I’m going to kill you.’

“The accused was in attendance with a friend who attempted to calm down the accused and gain possession of the metal bar.

“The accused then made the threat to smash in the witness’s van, at which point the police attended.

“The accused was cautioned and charged.”

Kobos, whose address was given as a city centre hotel on West Regent Street, pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

His defence agent said the crime

“Where the would merit a prison spell but made a case to the court for community disposal.

He said: “I would recognise at the outset that this offence could merit a custodial sentence.”

He added that his client was trying to cut down on booze.

The lawyer said: “He has said he will make an effort to reduce his alcohol intake and that may reduce further offending.”

Sheriff Valerie Mays sentenced him to a community payback order.

Kobos will be supervised by work for 12 months.

He will have to carry out 108 hours of unpaid work within a year, reduced from 120 hours due to his guilty plea.

The sheriff also gave Kobos a conduct requirement to attend an alcohol misuse service as directed by his social worker. social
