Taylor backs Ajeti to win appeal and escape ban

-

GREG TAYLOR thinks it would be an injustice for team-mate Albian Ajeti to be banned for the incident that led to Celtic winning a penalty against Kilmarnock last midweek.

Ajeti was cited by the SFA disciplinary panel for simulation after going down under the challenge of Killie goalkeeper Colin Doyle, an offence which carries a penalty of a two-game ban.

The forward will find out today if his club’s appeal against the charge has been successful, and Taylor says everyone at Celtic is expecting a positive outcome.

“You would hate for him to lose his place in the team over something like that,” Taylor said. “It is outwith his hands and it is outwith my hands, certainly. Hopefully for the team and for Albie, it [the verdict] is a positive one. Everyone supports everyone. There is a tight-knit bunch, we win as a team and lose as one.

“Albian has done well since he has come back into the side. He scored during the week at Kilmarnock and was probably a little bit unlucky with a couple of opportunities against Motherwell [on Saturday]. As long as he keeps putting in the work he has done in the last couple of games, then the goals are going to keep coming for him.”

Meanwhile, Taylor is hoping to increase his side’s winning run to three matches when they travel to face St Mirren on Wednesday, with the full-back admitting that revenge will be on their minds following their recent home defeat to the Saints.

“That’s certainly safe to say,” he said. “It was a disappointing result and more a disappointing performance against St Mirren at home.”
