Compliance officer hired

- Joshua Barrie

THE Scottish FA have appointed Andrew Phillips as their new Compliance Officer. Phillips will begin his new role on Monday, March 1 and replaces Clare Whyte in the role.

Whyte joined the Association in 2018 when she replaced Tony McGlennan.

Pjillips said: “I have spent the majority of my legal career working in criminal and regulatory defence, so becoming Compliance Officer is a fantastic opportunity for me to combine my professional expertise with my passion for football.”

DEREK McInnes last night admitted that seeing Aberdeen go six games without scoring for the first time in their 118-year history had hurt him – but insisted the Pittodrie club are poised to end their goal drought.

McInnes praised his players, who last netted against Motherwell back on January 23, for their performance in the 1-0 defeat to Celtic at Parkhead last night even though they failed to hit the target once again.

He felt the visitors should have been awarded a penalty by referee Alan Muir in the first-half when opposition centre half Stephen Welsh handled in his own area and is confident they will get on the scoresheet soon.

Asked if the record hurt him, McInnes said: “Of course it does, but we need to take responsibility for that. I am encouraged, but also disappointed that we now hold that record and of course it is not something that we want to have aimed at us. But it’s there and only we can do something about it now.

“Celtic have been doing very well of late but we were good tonight. Nobody will tell me any different. I have been here with strong Aberdeen teams and we have not been as brave at that.”
