‘SELFISH” drivers have been blasted for causing traffic chaos near a busy South Side hospital.

The dual carriageway outside Bupa’s Ross Hall Hospital is “frequently” reduced to just two lanes by parked cars, a councillor has warned, prompting fears it will cause access problems for the medical centre and other nearby businesses.

Councillor Jim Kavanagh has urged Glasgow City Council to prohibit parking in the left-hand lanes of Crookston Road with the introduction of double yellow lines.

However, he claims his pleas have fallen on deaf ears and he is now concerned the problem will get worse as the country begins to slowly ease out of lockdown.

He said: “This is a problem that’s been going on for a while and I’ve reported it long before in the hope of double yellow lines being put down, but the council don’t seem to want to go down that route.

“It’s a very busy road, it’s a main road, but the amount of parked cars near the hospital mean the road goes down to one lane of traffic each way – it’s a real problem.

A council spokesman said: “We are aware there have been issues with parking at times along this stretch of road.

“We will investigate the situation properly and look at what options might be appropriate in the circumstances.

“Changes to the road system, such as the introduction of yellow lines, would require us to enter into the formal process for a traffic regulation order.”
