Davis rues big chance missed for Rangers

STEVEN DAVIS admits it was an opportunit­y missed for Rangers as they crashed out of the Europa League at the hands of Slavia Prague.

The champions suffered only their second defeat of the campaign and were eliminated 3-1 on aggregate after goals from Peter Olayinka and Nicolae Stanciu saw Slavia ease into the quarter finals.

Rangers had Kemar Roofe and Leon Balogun sent off on a frustratin­g night for Steven Gerrard’s side as they missed the chance to go one step further than their run to the same stage of the competitio­n last season.

It has still be an admirable effort on the continent for Rangers this term, however, and Davis was frustrated that Gerrard’s side couldn’t give a better account of themselves as they missed out on a place in the last eight. Davis said: “Obviously we haven’t had that feeling much this season so we are disappoint­ed. I didn’t feel there was a great deal in the game between the two sides.

“We tried to do the right things in terms of coming out on the front foot with high energy and I thought we did that but we didn’t create enough or test the goalkeeper enough tonight. Then the sending off makes it difficult.

“I don’t think there was too much between the two teams to be honest. Even tonight, the first goal we are disappoint­ed with and the second is a bit of class from them.

“But I think if we had performed over the two legs the way we know we are capable of we could have gone through. We are disappoint­ed.

“Yeah, it certainly has [been positive]. We have enjoyed the European side of thing. Of course the immediate emotion tonight is one of disappoint­ment and we felt that we could have progressed.

“But we have to pick ourselves up and we have got a massive game on Sunday to look forward to. We will look
