Wright pleased to keep run going

- CHRIS JACK

SCOTT WRIGHT was pleased Rangers maintained their unbeaten Premiership run as they came from behind to earn an Old Firm draw at Parkhead.

The champions were far from their best, but still avoided defeat as Alfredo Morelos cancelled out an opener from Mohamed Elyounoussi to take another step closer to an invincible Premiership campaign,

The Parkhead clash was Wright’s first taste of the Old Firm fixture and the forward said: “Obviously it is a bit different without the fans. Playing in Scotland before, I know the magnitude of the game and the tension that comes into it.

“At the end of the day, it is just another game and we had to focus on coming here and getting the three points and keep a clean sheet. Although we haven’t done that today, we still stay unbeaten and we go on to the next game. It [the unbeaten run] is probably something that we don’t really speak about.”

Wright made his derby debut as a second-half substitute, replacing Joe Aribo for the final 13 minutes of a largely uneventful encounter.

The 23-year-old has made a positive impression since making the move from Aberdeen in January and is determined to continue catching the eye. Wright said manager Steven Gerrard’s message to him before he entered the action was that Celtic were going to be tiring so he should try to bring his energy to the game.

“The game was going a wee bit flat and that was what I was trying to do, get on the ball and make things happen,” Wright said. “It goes both ways. I feel the benefit because I come on and feel fresh and hopefully the defenders are a bit tired. But then you are coming on to the game and you need to get up to the speed as quick as you can. I have got good players around me that help me to get the ball and get into positions to attack the other team.”

The goal from Morelos was the striker at his best as he found himself in the right place at the right time to nod home after Leon Balogun met a Borna Barisic corner. It was the first time the Colombian has scored against Celtic and Wright said: “He has got a great mentality and that is something that wouldn’t bother him. He just wants to score goals in every game.”
