GLASGOW has seen a considerable drop in coronavirus cases in the past week. The latest seven-day figures show the number of positive Covid-19 cases in Glasgow has fallen after a recent increase.

The latest seven-day total for positive cases was 684, which is a reduction from the 844 recorded for the week before.

It is a drop of 19% in a week. Meanwhile, there was a drop across Scotland – though not as steep as in Glasgow. Across the country overall the fall was 4%, down by 156 from 4014 to 3848.

It takes the rate per 100,000 people in the city to 108, the lowest it has been this year.

Glasgow is now one of five areas where the rate of Covid-19 is between 100 and 200 per 100,000.

West Lothian has the highest rate in Scotland at 193 per 100,00,0 followed by East Renfrewshire at 112 and North Lanarkshire at 108 per 100,000 people. North Ayrshire is the other area at 100.7.

A total of 15 of Scotland’s council areas are at a lower rate of below 50 per 100,000 and 12 have a rate of between 50 and 99.

Using the World Health Organisation criteria for levels, Glasgow would qualify for Level Three, with between 50 and 150 per 100,000, when the system is brought back at the end of April.

However, a continued reduction could see it reach below 50, taking the city to Level Two.

Scotland overall is currently at70 cases per 100,00, with that figure reducing, giving hope that the whole country can move out of lockdown together as planned.

The 19% drop in the city comes after a one-week increase for the seven days up to March 12.

In Glasgow there is just one area remaining in the highest category of more than 400 cases per 100,000 people.
