Singing duo aim for top spot in new competition

- BY HEATHER CARRICK

MORE Times Talent hopefuls are getting involved with our new competition, which will see one lucky winning act walk away with a cash prize of £1000.

One act hoping to beat the competition are singing duo Hayley McGill, 25, and Jodie Montgomery, 24, from King’s Park.

The pals launched a singing duo in 2019 after meeting at college media.

Hayley said: “I think I put a video of me singing on Instagram and Jodie commented underneath it, and we decided to set up a jam session. We realised that our voices work really well together.

“We have a big emphasis on harmonies and we perform a mix of songs. Jodie is into her pop music, and I’m more into indie music, so we end up with a nice mix of both genres.” and connecting on social

Hayley, a social media assistant at Scottish Power, said that the duo has been affected by lockdown, after gigs were cancelled.

She said: “We were doing really well and getting a few bookings for weddings and parties.

“But when lockdown was announced that completely cleared our book, which was really hard.”

The girls have been continuing to create music over lockdown with the help of technology.

Hayley said: “Because we live apart, we have to work over videos. Jodie would send me video and I would sync it up to mines to try to create something.

“The Times Talent competition is a great opportunity to get our name out a bit more and even if we don’t win, it gives us a bit of a platform.”
