Police launch manhunt after ‘targeted attack’
AMANHUNT is under way after “despicable” thugs tried to kill a man outside a row of shops in North Glasgow.
Police were scouring the streets of Milton yesterday after three thugs rushed out of a Volkswagen Golf and a dark saloon car and made an attempt on his life with bladed weapons on Monday night.
Officers were seen taking brown evidence bags to and from a nearby electrical substation, having been given access by engineers and pieces of blood-soaked cloth were lying on the pavement outside the Skerry Street shops.
The 27-year-old victim was in the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment to his injuries and medics described his condition as serious but stable.
Mr Azil, the manager of the Shopsmart at the end of the row, was waiting with a group who had gathered at the police cordon around the shopping area.
He said: “We closed at 7.30pm. That happened at nearly 10pm. I’m waiting for us to be allowed to open. My bread is lying there waiting in the van.”
Locals were shocked by the attack and residents mentioned that a group were known to booze into the night at the shops. Police said that the members of the public who came to the victim’s aid were not thought to have been drinking at the scene at the time of the attack.
One said: “This area has really gone downhill. The police are here all the time.
“They ought to shut those shops.”
The attackers fled the scene after brutally assaulting their target and it is not known in which direction they left.
The first suspect is described as white and wearing a khaki top, a bubble jacket with the hood up and face covered, dark bottoms and black trainers.
The second suspect is described as white and wearing all black clothing with the hood up and face covered.
The third suspect is described as white and wearing a black hooded top with a large white Nike logo across the chest, black bottoms and his face covered. Detective Inspector Graham McCreadie, from Maryhill CID, said: “This is believed to have been a targeted attack on the victim, who has been left seriously injured, and it is vital we trace the despicable individuals responsible. “Extensive inquiries are ongoing and we would appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident, or noticed anything at all suspicious, to come forward. “In particular, we would urge any motorists with dash-cams who were in the area at the time to please check their footage in case they have captured anything of significance, such as the vehicles involved. “Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident 3656 of Monday, March 29, 2021.
