£2.3M BOOST FOR WOODLAND PARK IN CITY’S EAST END
AN East End woodland park is to benefit from £2.3 million of new facilities. Work is now under way at the popular Cuningar Loop Woodland Park in Clyde Gateway, which has seen more than half a million visitors since it first opened.
The park, which spans 37 acres of woodland on the banks of the River Clyde in Rutherglen, will see a new Bothy and lookout tower The Tur being built.
Clyde Gateway’s chief executive Ian Manson said: “The Cuningar Loop woodland park is a muchloved facility and during lockdown, it has provided a real haven for local residents to carry out exercise.
“These new facilities will further enhance this fantastic facility and give local residents even more outdoor health, wellbeing and natural play benefits.”
The Bothy is a forest building, which has the aim of bringing together local communities, groups and visitors.
It will feature a multi-functional space for both community and business, together with toilets and changing facilities.
The Tur will be a viewing platform with ramped access, and located north of The Bothy, and will allow visitors to take in expansive treetop views over the park.
Cuningar Loop, which is managed by Forestry and Land Scotland, first opened to the public in 2016 and provides a range of features including adventure play, bike pump track, bouldering zone, boardwalk and events area. The new facilities will be delivered by Linear Design and Construct, who are also based in the East End.
Ian added: “Cuningar Loop already brings huge recreational and economic benefits to the area and the addition of The Bothy and Tur will be the icing on the cake, offering the ideal woodland retreat to promote physical and mental wellness and a fantastic resource for the local community and visitors to enjoy.”
Work is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
