Actress in human hair wig move for cancer sufferers

It’s a luxury item that the average person can’t afford

-

“Even though it’s really good quality, it doesn’t look like yours and it doesn’t feel like you. It’s adding insult to injury really.” Human hair wigs cost upwards of £2000 which many women who are undergoing cancer treatment cannot afford due to having to give up work. Reaghan claimed the Covid-19 pandemic has made the situation worse. She said: “It’s a luxury item that the average person can’t afford and it’s particularly bad because of Covid. A lot of people have been furloughed and they’re only getting 80% of their wages so they have even less money than normal.”

As well as raising cash for women to access human hair wigs, Reaghan has also shaved her hair off to raise awareness for her GoFundMe which was launched last month.

She described the experience as “bizarre”. Reaghan added: “I was prepared for it, I’m a bit of a nutter. I’m an actor so I’m quite confident. I started cutting it with scissors and then my boyfriend got into it with clippers. It was a bizarre experience.”

Reaghan is positive about the battle she has ahead of her. She said: “I want to remain positive about it, but I do want people to realise that breast cancer is the number one cancer in the UK now. It is affecting women younger and younger.

“Sending pictures of a wee pink ribbon around doesn’t really raise awareness. But when you say ‘Hey look, I’ve shaved my hair off’. Hey look, I’ve got cancer. Hey look, this is what it’s actually doing to me. I want to show you some pictures. I want to tell you some stories’.

“That’s really raising awareness. The more people can chip into this fund, the better because it means we can help other women feel so much better about themselves.”
