Woman who dragged 72-year-old to ground claimed pyjama alibi

- BY CONNOR GORDON

AFEMALE thug who dragged a 72-yearold woman to the ground initially claimed she was at home in her pyjamas at the time.

Megan Paterson pounced on Patricia Rankin in Glasgow’s Castlemilk on December 3, 2019.

The 30-year-old pulled Miss Rankin to the ground by her hair and struggled with her.

But, when quizzed by police,

Paterson stated that she was at home in her pyjamas.

Paterson pleaded guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the assaults to Miss Rankin and her daughter Lynsey.

Co-accused Gary Weir, 35, meantime admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner and having a baseball bat without reasonable excuse or lawful authority.

Prosecutor John Bedford said: “Lynsey Rankin was owed money prior to the events.

“She had received communication and text messages and there is quite a significant background to this.”

The court heard the pair went to Lynsey’s door with Weir banging on it and calling her a “s **** bag”.

Lynsey phoned her mum as she was concerned for her safety and she made her way to the house.

Mr Bedford said: “Paterson got involved in a fight with the mother and daughter.

“She reached forward and grabbed Miss Rankin’s hair, pulling her to the ground and thereafter a short struggle took place between them.

“Lynsey Rankin intervened to split them up but Paterson grabbed her hair.”

Members of the public involved and separated parties.

Weir was caught with the baseball bat and the pair were later arrested.

Paterson told officers when charged: “I was in my house in my pyjamas.”

Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports by Sheriff Tom Hughes.

Paterson and Weir, also of Castlemilk, had their bail continued meantime. got the
