TOP 20: PICK YOUR TIMES TALENT STAR

LAUREN’S SCHOOL CALLED HER A ‘TRIPLE THREAT’

- BY LAUREN GILMOUR

ABUDDING medic has been unveiled as one of the top 20 contestants in our Times Talent competition. Voting for the winner of the contest, sponsored by delivery company, Foodhub, is underway.

The winner is set to walk away with a £1000 prize with the first runner up netting £350 and our third place contestant taking £150.

Singer Lauren Lindsay, 16 who lives in Penilee, is currently training to be a paramedic. Her mum, Karen, says she is incredibly proud.

She said: “I saw someone had put her video on facebook and I just couldn’t believe it. That was my Lauren!”

Lauren has been since she could talk.

She said: “As soon as she could speak, she was singing. She knew what song she wanted to sing and we knew what she wanted to sing but she couldn’t get the words out.”

Lauren has always been a gifted performer and when she was in primary one, she was picked as the main part in a school play. Not only did she learn her own words, but she learned everyone else’s too.

Karen added: “Lauren took over the stage. Her confidence singing was unbelievable. Her school called her a triple threat.”

As well as singing, Lauren also wants to spend her life helping others. While she is currently at college, she has ambitions to go on and become a doctor one day.

Karen says that she has been a massive help to her as she has been recovering from a serious surgery over the last few months. Karen said: “She’s just brilliant. She would do anything for you. She’s been taking her wee sister to school and going to the shops and then she’ll ask if there’s anything else I need. We’re so proud her.”

Karen is keen to emphasise that the family do not push her and her interest in singing is entirely led by her. She said: “We’re behind her 100% me and her dad. We’re there for the highs as well as the low.”

Karen has instructed her family and friends to buy as many copies of the Glasgow Times as possible in order to of get their votes in and thinks Times Talent has been a great way for people to show off their talents. She said: “I think it’s been great that they have done this. It’s really appreciated that the kids have this chance.”

Lauren also applied to be on hit show, The Voice. Her mum believes she looks like singer Paloma Faith. A big Cher fan, Lauren’s audition video was a stripped back version of the singer’s hit “Believe”.

The contest is hotting up as Lauren joins fellow finalists including fellow singers Jennifer Neil, Marcedes Spalding, Abi Morrison, Sophie Tonner and Talie Webb.
