RUM HAS THE GLASGOW SPIRIT

-

FREDDY DRUCQUER, Dougie Jeffries and Chris Dowdall, united in their enthusiasm for rum, set out to do something different. The trio created Brass Neck, based on Bath Street, a brand born out of an audacious approach to challenge conventions.

They got to work developing a recipe for a spiced rum that combines Scottish botanicals like nettle and milk thistle with the complex profile of tonka bean and orange peel.

“We wanted to stand out from the crowd with something unique and include some ingredients that others wouldn’t” Freddy says.

The label features an urban fox, elements of the Glasgow skyline and the Scottish countryside.

The design was created by Tomtom Tattoos, working out of Blackdot Tattoo Studios on Allison Street.

There was an extensive trialling process before Freddy felt they had found a recipe that represented a breakthrough.

He says there was a singular moment where they all decided they had found what Brass Neck was going to be.

“The response since then has been great. We’ve launched to customers for the last four months and we’ve been encouraged by repeat orders and more enquiries.”

You can currently find bottles in shops like Curious Liquids in Shawlands and Made from Grapes on Nithsdale Road. They also have a listing on the Master of Malt website.

The next stage as local hospitality returns will be more of a presence in local bars and restaurants.

“This summer there’s going to be a buzz as people get back to their social life and we want to be part of that. We’re looking at bar takeovers and collaborations on cocktails while developing a summer range at the moment.

“Once the doors are open, we are looking to have conversations across Glasgow. I’m looking forward to seeing our bottle behind bars across the city.

“We feel connected to the cocktail scene in Glasgow and this is where we want to start with Brass Neck.”
