Man fined for attack on security guard
AMAN assaulted a security guard at a McDonald’s restaurant in the city centre after being told he couldn’t use the toilet. Andrew Reid, of Plantation Park Gardens, appeared in Glasgow Sheriff Court yesterday after previously pleading guilty to striking the employee to the face with his hand.
The 29-year-old, who has previously served a prison sentence for a football related offence, hit out at the security guard at the Sauchiehall Street restaurant on June 16, 2019.
The procurator fiscal depute said: “At about 1.10am, the accused entered McDonald’s with two other people.
“He attempted to go to the toilet whilst it was being occupied by another person.
“The security guard told him only one person is allowed at a time and this frustrated the accused.
“He attempted to push past the security guard into the toilets but was repeatedly told that he couldn’t.
“The security guard asked the accused to leave, and he refused. The accused raised his hand and struck the security guard to his face.
“He was continuously told leave which he eventually did.
“Police were called and on arrival they were told of the circumstances. The accused was apprehended by officers and thereafter arrested and taken to the police office.”
Reid’s solicitor explained to the court that his client was sentenced to imprisonment for a football to related offence in July 2019.
He added: “This offence occurred before then. He was released from custody in October 2019 and hasn’t been in any sort of trouble at all.
“He realised after the last offence that he can’t go on acting like this.
“He has made every effort to better himself and he is now working as a delivery driver.
“Whilst he understands he needs to be punished; he really does not want to go back to prison.
“I would invite you to consider an alternative to custody.”
Sheriff Mary Shields ordered Reid to pay a £250 fine at £30 per week.
