Tories confident for list seats in Glasgow
THE group leader for Glasgow City Council feels confident that Annie Wells and Dr Sandesh Gulhane will be elected putting the party on the right track to “stand up to the SNP”.
Thomas Kerr said he and his team advised unionist voters to “vote Tory” on the peach ballot paper and that he is feeling confident about the result despite the consistency votes for conservative candidates dropping.
He said: “The Scottish Conservative message was all about peach vote Tory and to select us on their regional ballot. We are not daft, and we are nowhere close to winning the Glasgow constituencies yet.
“We have been asking every unionist voter in the city to make sure they give us their peach vote. I think if you look at constituencies all over Glasgow there has been tactical voting without a doubt.
“Anas Sarwar has doubled the vote in the Southside against Nicola Sturgeon and that’s all thanks to the Scottish
Conservative voters who tactically voted for him in their constituency.
“I think people have been really smart in this election and some came to the conclusion that the best option was Labour, but we still believe the Conservatives are the best option.”
Mr Kerr is expecting to see his party pick up seats during Saturday’s count and believes Tory votes have held up “quite well”.
He added: “The vote has held in areas where there is a strong Conservative presence and has increased in areas which are more working class. I think there is a bit of a demographic change which will be interesting to see how that plays out.
“I think we are still on course to keep our two seats to get Annie Wells re-elected and to get Sandesh Gulhane in. We believe that both of them will be fantastic assets to the Scottish Parliament.
“Unionists will be able to see that we are standing up to the SNP. I am looking forward to demonstrating this.”
