Bid to raise £60k for ‘valued’ club

- BY MAXINE MCARTHUR

ACAMPAIGN has been launched to save a popular Drumchapel social club from closing down.

An emergency funding plea has been launched to save the Goodyear Sports and Social Club (GSSC) which has taken a hit following tough coronavirus restrictions.

A GoFundMe page, set up by Thomas Clark, says the “valued” facility has seen a reduction in usage – like many other businesses across the country – and needs recovery efforts to bring customers back through the doors.

The process of re-establishing a management committee is currently underway to transform the site by ensuring its immediate future and carrying out essential maintenance.

It is hoped a total of £60,000 will be raised for the Duntreath Avenue site.

The campaign has a long way to go, but it’s off to a promising start with a total of £1740 so far.

Speaking via the GoFundMe page, the management committee said: “We need to raise emergency club capital funds to start this four-stage business recovery journey. We are fully committed to the shared aim of securing the GSSC as a key historical hospitality community resource.

“The Goodyear Social Club is all about positive memories for many local people and families.

“It’s an iconic building recognised throughout its community that offers a ‘great night oot’. Please be part of the club’s emergency recovery by donating and helping us keep the GSSC doors open and getting your social club back to a place that both members and the wider community can be proud to be part of once again.”
