Arrests after human traffickin­g operation

Sting taking place across the UK, with cops also at work in the capital

APOLICE operation working to identify and disrupt the crime gangs responsibl­e for human traffickin­g is currently ongoing in Glasgow and beyond.

Following an arrest in the north of the city last week, cops have said enquiries are ongoing to bring an end to the “despicable trade in people”.

A 69-year-old woman was arrested in Maryhill as part of “Operation Fasthold”.

Elsewhere in London, pictured, and Cambridge, three others were arrested – two men, aged 29 and 41, and a 31-year-old woman.

Detective Superinten­dent Donna Duffy, of Police Scotland’s Greater Glasgow division said: “Operation Fasthold is a Police Scotland led, multi-agency response targeting human traffickin­g across the country. On Thursday, September 30, officers targeted a number of addresses in Glasgow, London and Cambridge. Two men aged 29 and 41, and two women aged 31 and 69, were arrested and charged with human traffickin­g offences.

“Traffickin­g and exploitati­on is happening across Scotland within our communitie­s and our local officers, alongside our colleagues in the National Human Traffickin­g Unit, are working to identify and disrupt the crime gangs responsibl­e and bring an end to their despicable trade in people.

“Police Scotland is committed to tackling human traffickin­g and I would urge everyone to be aware of the signs and report any concerns to police in order that we can help and support individual­s who are being exploited.”
