Man taken to hospital after being ‘attacked’ by gang
A MAN and woman were allegedly assaulted in East Kilbride on Tuesday.
Officers responded to the underpass on Telford Road at around 2.55am following reports a large group of people were causing a “disturbance”.
A local woman, aged 57, came out of her home to ask them to keep the noise down and was reportedly assaulted.
After witnessing this, a 68-year-old man came out to assist the woman and was allegedly assaulted with a “weapon”.
The group dispersed and emergency services were called.
The 68-year-old man was transported by ambulance to Hairmyres Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment for a head injury.
The 57-year-old woman did not require hospital treatment.
Police Scotland confirmed a 19-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged incident and was released on an undertaking to appear in court at a later date.
Detective Constable Gary Milligan from Cambuslang CID said: “Enquiries are at an early stage to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident and I am appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
“In particular I would like to speak to any local residents who saw a group of men and woman causing a disturbance in the area, or who may have private CCTV footage.
“I would also ask any motorists with dash-cams who were travelling through at the time to please check their footage in case they have captured anything which could be of significance.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland through 101, quoting incident number 0289 of Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers.”
