Coetzer feels fearless after Scots make T20 history

- GRAEME MACPHERSON

KYLE COETZER insisted Scotland would fear nobody after booking their place in the T20 World Cup Super 12 phase and games against India, Pakistan and New Zealand.

Shane Burger’s side defeated Oman by eight wickets to win their third game in five days to make it beyond the first round of a World Cup for the first time.

And captain Coetzer said they would relish the challenge of taking on some of the world’s best players over the next fortnight.

He said: “For cricket in Scotland this is huge. For us it is the opportunity to play on the biggest stage and test ourselves against the best and grow the game back home because the following has been immense.

“Now we cannot wait to play some of the world’s best. Of course, it will be a mighty tough group we are going into, but as far as I was aware this was a mighty tough group we were in already.

“The next group will obviously be slightly tougher, but there is no reason to fear any teams in the group.

“The tournament is going to be tough, it’s going to be good and exciting and we will go into every game full of hope and belief that we can win more games of cricket.

“I think this group has a real togetherness, we have been through thick and thin, a lot of these guys have played together for many years.

“The guys have put in a lot of work over the last couple of years to develop their own games while the coaching staff have done a fantastic job. We are now playing some excellent cricket and are a pretty established outfit with bat, ball and in the field. But I am sure we will find time to celebrate!”
