- BY CONNOR GORDON

AMAN crashed into a car and drove off just two weeks after he was disqualified. Eamonn Carr collided into John Carlisle as he did a three-point turn in Glasgow’s Queen’s Park on July 31 this year.

The 50-year-old caused significant damage to Mr Carlisle’s Renault Clio but failed to stay behind to give his details.

Carr was noted by the victim to “smell of alcohol”.

Carr’s driving ban was only discovered when he was later traced by police.

Sheriff Allan McKay tagged Carr for 40 days keeping him indoors between 8pm and 6am.

He was put under supervision for one year and further disqualified from driving for three years.

Carr had earlier pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified and refusing to do a breath test.

Glasgow Sheriff Court was told Carr was behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Tiguan around 9.20pm.

Prosecutor Jennifer Sillars said: “Mr Carlisle was on Victoria Road doing a three point turn when he was struck by Carr.

“The collision caused rear offside damage to Mr Carlisle’s vehicle.

“Mr Carlisle spoke to Carr and realised he appeared to be intoxicated and smelled strongly of alcohol.”

Carr then got back into the car fled the scene before a 999 call was made.

The car was found parked in Queen’s Drive in Queen’s Park with damage to the front of it.

Carr was traced to his property and found to be “heavily intoxicated.”

He then refused to do a breath test before it was discovered he was disqualified from driving for 16 months on July 16 this year.

Carr refused again to do a second breath test.

His lawyer told the court Carr was going through a relationship break up and that he “understands the gravity of the offences.”
