Tavernier laments ‘10 minutes of madness’
JAMES TAVERNIER reckons Rangers paid for “10 minutes of madness” as their Ibrox troubles continued against Aberdeen.
The champions dropped points for the third time this term on home soil as an Alfredo Morelos header and Tavernier penalty salvaged a draw on Wednesday night.
Rangers now head to Motherwell this weekend knowing that they are likely to have lost top spot in the Premiership standings to Celtic. And Tavernier admits Steven Gerrard’s side must quickly raise their levels if they are to keep their title defence on track this term.
Tavernier told RangersTV: “[I’m] really disappointed. It was 10 minutes of madness at the start of the game. We made the first mistake and the second mistake is my fault, I have got to hold my hand up for that. I let my runner go in the box and then it is an uphill fight from there.
“[I’m] just really disappointed in our performance. We didn’t test Joe Lewis enough and we are obviously dropping too many points at home.
“If we are to compete for the league and keep our title, we have got to make this a fortress and not drop any points.
“It has just not been good enough in the games we have had at home. From start to finish, there have been spells in the games but we have not had a consistency.
“We need to look at ourselves and improve. Speaking after the game, we know we have to improve and obviously it has to be done starting this weekend.
“And we have got to do it at the other end of the pitch as well and create chances and put the ball in the back of the net. We have to have three points at the weekend.”
