Teen claimed she was manhandled

- BY CONNOR GORDON

ADRUNK lout repeatedly lashed out at police after claiming she was being manhandled. Sarah Jane Gibbons turned on the officers initially at Glasgow’s Crossmyloof train station on November 28, 2020.

The 19-year-old recorded officers with her phone after they stopped her traveling by train due to her state of intoxication.

Gibbons ranted stating she was being “manhandled” before being arrested.

The teen kicked out at officers and was even able to break free from handcuffs during a journey to a police station.

Gibbons pleaded guilty this week at Glasgow Sheriff Court to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner. She also admitted assaulting two police officers. The court heard police were alerted to a group of youths which included Gibbons causing a disturbance at Crossmyloof station.

Officers spotted them getting on board a train around 9.50pm but were stopped from doing so.

Gibbons initially refused to give her details before eventually handing them over.

She was told that she was prohibited from traveling due to her state of intoxication and told to leave the station.

Prosecutor Hannah Terrance said: “Gibbons refused to desist and began screaming and shouting and recording police as well as refusing to leave. She made gestures with her phone saying that it was going on Facebook tonight and that the police were manhandling her.”

Gibbons was told by friends to “calm down” but she continued with her behaviour.

She stated to officers: “I will be getting the train.”

Gibbons was then arrested and put in handcuffs for the officers’ safety.

She banged her head against the police cell van while inside and was restrained.

Gibbons was able to break out of the handcuffs which caused officers to stop the cell van.

She kicked out at PC David Howie catching him on the right side of his face.

She also kicked PC Anna Bardzik to the left side of her head.

Gibbons made a homophobic remark to an officer.

Gibbons was taken to a cell to be searched but she refused stating: “I not getting searched, you don’t find anything.”

The hearing was told Gibbons is subject to a one-year supervision order from earlier this month at Greenock Sheriff Court.

Sentence was deferred until next month for background reports.
