Man barred from seeing mum and sister after rant

- BY CATRIONA STEWART

AMAN was banned from any contact with his mother and sister after threatening the two women in an East End flat. Glasgow Sheriff Court heard how Graham Morrison’s family were packing up a house in Dennistoun that was being put up for sale.

Morrison, from Riddrie, turned up holding a large stick, swore and shouted at the women and made them feel threatened.

His defence brief told the court he had a drinking problem that had spiralled out of control.

Depute fiscal Jennifer Sillars told the court how on October 12 last year the two women were in the flat trying to get items from the property, which was up for sale.

Morrison was there and under the influence of alcohol.

His mother and sister tried to tell him to leave as he was no longer welcome. But the 44-yearold refused to move and became aggressive towards the two women.

He shouted at them “c***” and “useless f **** ”, the court heard.

His mother and sister tried to speak to him and calm him down but he continued being aggressive and shouted: “I don’t f ****** want to go.”

Two days later the women were back in the Dennistoun property when Morrison showed up holding a large stick in his hand.

He started to tell them stories that were violent in nature which they perceived to be a threat.

Sillars said: “He called the witnesses ‘c***’ and ‘b **** ’ and told them what stupid women they were.”

His sister contacted the police who arrived at the Westercraigs property and arrested Morrison, who was taken to Cathcart police station.

Morrison’s defence brief said: “There are aspects of [the criminal justice social work report] that may be of concern to the court.

“He does accept full responsibility for what happened.

“With regards to his sister, the two of them simply do not get on.

“He has an alcohol problem and he clearly accepts he needs help for all his problems.

“He wants to seek help and put himself back on the right lines.”

Sheriff Mary Shields placed Morrison on a community payback order with two years supervision by social work.

The order contains a conduct requirement that he must attend alcohol counselling.

Morrison was also given two non-harassment orders for his mother and sister that will last for two years.
