Summit will lead to rise in Christmas Covid deaths

- Daniel Harris

IAM dismayed that Nicola Sturgeon has opened up Scotland to flights from every country in the world regardless of their Covid levels. Her failure is leading to 12,000 Covid deaths in Scotland by this Christmas.

RE the cancellation of the Christmas market, and the rat population in Glasgow, and the chaos leading up to and during COP26.

I ask the question; do we have anyone with an ounce of common sense at Glasgow Council??? If there is, he or she is a master at hiding it. A bunch of bungling idiots led by a woman that is completely out of touch with the real world. They are running this once proud city into the ground. Mac

MY wife and I were rudely awakened this morning at 8.15am by the brutally abrasive sounds of drills, hammering and heavyduty saws. The street outside was congested with tradesmen vans, the communal entrance was littered with woodwork, the noise was tremendous.

It transpired that an upstairs neighbour was having a major refurbishment. My wife who has an ongoing health problem was visibly upset by the invasion on our normal routine.

Had the factor given prior notice of the work we could have taken an alternative residence away from the noise and inconvenience. When I tried to make a complaint to the factor, I was told that they were legally entitled to work at that time. He totally refused to accept that my complaint was not the work but the failure to inform of the disruption to our daily way of life. This is not the first failure of the factor, they produce a nice brochure to inform of their services, unfortunately they fail miserably to get anywhere near their supposed services.

I AM responding to Alex Orr’s claim, in Saturday’s Glasgow Times, that Brexit is proving to be an unmitigated disaster.

He obviously has jumped on the bandwagon with the rest of the anti Brexiteers who give the impression that the UK left utopia when it left the EU.

They never mention that across the EU there is a very serious shortfall of HGV drivers. The latest figures show 400,000. Poland alone has a shortfall of 120,000. It has started recruiting Asian drivers.

What is never mentioned by people like him is

MANUFACTURING. During my lifetime I have experienced living in a country which was flooded with manufacturing companies of every description, to living in a country which is now virtually devoid of manufacturing anything!

During the 1980s the UK Government spent millions in grants to manufacturing companies to enable them to catch up with the Japanese. I know because I was involved in this programme and travelled the length and breadth of the UK monitoring this grant scheme. The vast majority of these companies are gone. Why? Because manufacturing has gone to China. They didn’t steal it. Western capitalists gave it to them. Western capitalist countries, including the USA, which moved their manufacturing industries to China, are now accusing China of being the worst offenders regarding global warming. We will be subjected to a load of waffle during the forthcoming conference in Glasgow on this issue. I bet there will be no demand to return manufacturing to the west.
