Plans for St Enoch Xmas market after Square axe
GLASGOW’S Christmas market organisers have revealed which George Square favourites will appear at the St Enoch site after last week’s shock cancellation.
As exclusively revealed by the Glasgow Times, George Square’s market was scrapped after host Market Place Europe struggled to gain access to the site due to COP26 concerns.
However, the group has confirmed crowd-pleasers Mr Kokkalis with his delicious Greek Gyros and Mrs Puller with her candied nuts and Belgian treats will be setting up stalls near the shopping centre.
The popular Ranch Bar will also move to its new home at St Enoch.
Thousands of visitors are expected to visit this year’s Christmas Market at St Enoch Square from November 21 until December 23.
The construction team will begin work in the coming weeks, hammering, securing structures and building chalets to create the Christmas Village in time for the opening of the markets at 12pm.
Organisers say they are confident that having missed a year of festive celebrations due to Covid-19 last year, there is a huge appetite in the city for some Christmas market cheer.
Chief executive of Market Place, Nick Rhodes, said: “Having the market in the heart of the city provides an invaluable boost to the city’s retail and tourism offering.” With a capacity for 3250 visitors, St Enoch Square falls under the capacity of outdoor events which require evidence of vaccination or negative tests.
However, guests have been asked to maintain social distancing and avoid unnecessary handling of goods.
The market will be open from 10am to 7pm Monday to Wednesday and 10am to 8pm Thursday to Sunday.
