Gers star enjoys Glasgow event to raise awareness of Colombian wildlife

RANGERS star Alfredo Morelos visited an art exhibition in Glasgow to celebrate and highlight the wildlife of his native Colombia.

The striker, who hails from Cerete, was a guest at the immersive experience created by two fellow Colombians, artists Sergio Mantilla and Miguel Chaparro.

The Unibirds – Colombia, The Country With The Greatest Bird Diversity In The World exhibition features interactive holograms showcasing 1958 bird species living in Colombia.

Each piece features a hologram with a QR code which guests can scan with their phone to reveal how each bird moves in flight.

Mantilla said: “After climate change, the loss of biodiversity is the single biggest threat to humanity.

“Colombia is the country with the most bird species in the world and this exhibition is a legacy of COP26 and Colombia’s involvement in Glasgow which seeks to enact real and tangible change in the behaviour of humans.

“It’s an honour to host this exhibition in Scotland, and through events such as this we can spread the word of the significance of biodiversity and play a part in creating a more sustainable future for all species on our planet.”

Morelos was among Scottish and Colombian government representatives at the opening at the Moxy Glasgow SEC Hotel last night, where Ardgowan Distillery provided whisky cocktails.

Hosted by the UK Colombian embassy, it is hoped that the display will raise awareness of the importance of biodiversity as well as build relations between Scotland and Colombia.

Colombian ambassador to the UK Antonio Jose Ardila said: “Colombia is making a significant cultural investment in the UK, and we want to make sure it extends far beyond London.

“With this exhibition in Glasgow we aim to strengthen the relationship between Scotland and Colombia.”

The exhibition runs at the hotel until Tuesday, December 7.
