Still Game star aims to help ‘light up the night’

STILL Game star Jane McCarry has backed a Marie Curie fundraiser which is asking people across Glasgow to raise money and light up the festive season for local families affected by terminal illness.

The Light Up The Night initiative is calling for everyone to get involved by turning the shortest day into the brightest night on December 21.

People and businesses can pledge £100 to dedicate a lantern and, in turn, help raise money for people affected by long-term illnesses and their families.

Each person taking part will receive a lantern of their own to display at home and Marie Curie staff will add a lantern with the person’s message on to a display at the Marie Curie Hospices.

Jane McCarry, who is best known for playing Isa Drennan in the BBC comedy Still Game, and who is starring in panto this year, said: “The festive season is a time when families meet up, but for so many people across Scotland, there will be loved ones missing from their get-togethers.

“Sadly, I know what feelings they’ll be experiencing as I lost my mum earlier this year, but lighting a lantern in memory of her will bring me and my family some comfort.”

A spokesperson for Marie Curie added: “Christmas can be a difficult time for those who are bereaved, living with a terminal illness or caring for a loved one at the end of life.

“By taking part in ‘Light Up The Night’, you can help us continue to be there for everyone who will need us now and in the future.”
