Beauty salon owner attacked five people

A BEAUTY salon owner dodged jail after assaulting five people – including a cop – while out celebrating his 10th anniversary with his partner.

Sheriff Amel Elfallah acknowledged that four employees rely on Trent Young for their livelihoods in telling him he would not be sent to prison.

The 30-year-old appeared in the dock alongside co-accused Sheree Dillon, who assaulted a bar worker and obstructed police during the incident.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard how the couple were in Ross’s Original Bar when the boozefuelled rampage kicked off. Young and Dillon, 38, were out in Glasgow city centre on September 19, 2021, to mark 10 years together when Young got into an argument with three people at a nearby table.

Dad-of-four Young was heard to shout “f ****** ” and “wee gay b ******* ” at two men in the other group.

Young then rose from his seat to confront one of the other men.

Dillon was seen to try to restrain her partner, depute fiscal Josh Dowie told the court, but he punched the man several times.

The man, whose identity is not known, fell to the ground and remained there for some minutes. Young then turned to the female of the group and punched her several times to the head.

At this point one of the bar staff jumped over the bar and attempted to assist the victim on the floor.

Young was being restrained but managed to break free and punched the bar worker, Remmi Connelly.

Customers and other bar staff tried to intervene and Young was escorted from the pub followed a short time later by Dillon.

Outside the pub, in Mitchell Lane, Young continued to argue with

Ms Connelly and another staff member, Maximillian Yates.

Young, from Troon, then punched Mr Yates several times to the head, striking him with one punch on his eye.

He then grabbed Ms Connelly by the hair and forced her up against a wall before members of the public intervened.

At this point Dillon, from Kilmarnock, also had Ms Connelly by the hair and joined in the assault on her.

Young and Dillon then walked off along Gordon Street where they were spotted by police around 10.50pm.

Officers attempted to stop the couple but they kept walking. Cops then tried to restrain Young to stop him going any further but he began to struggle and try to push past them. They called for back up and another four officers attended.

While trying to get handcuffs on Young he lashed out at one of the officers and headbutted him, leaving the constable “dazed” with bruises and cuts to his face. Dillon tried to intervene in the arrest, knocking another officer’s hat from his head.

Young’s defence brief said Young became “heavily intoxicated”.

The dad pleaded guilty at the start of his trial when he saw the events on CCTV.

The court was told that Young has not been in prison for 12 years now and since 2009 his offences have been driving related and one domestic incident.

As a direct alternative to custody, Young was placed on a community payback order with 12 months supervision and told to carry out 225 hours of unpaid work. He must pay £300 compensation each to Mr Yates and Ms Connelly and was also tagged for 90 days, keeping him at home from 7pm to 7am.

Dillon was fined £360 with a £20 victim surcharge.
