Simms keen to cap loan with cup after Everton woes

Scottish Cup final

- DAVID IRVINE

ELLIS SIMMS is hoping this Saturday he and his Hearts team-mates can create a memory to last a lifetime – even if it’s been a season to forget for Everton.

Powerful forward Simms, 21, moved to Tynecastle on loan in January and is targeting a Scottish Cup triumph over Rangers at Hampden.

It has been a tough season for Simms’ parent club, Everton, as they battle relegation from the Premier League while rivals

Liverpool are competing for an unprecedented quadruple.

But it could be a stunning weekend for Simms if he goes on to achieve a Scottish Cup win and Frank Lampard guides Everton to safety.

“Winning the cup and then seeing Everton stay up would be brilliant, one hundred per cent,” said Simms.

“The boys are working hard down there to make the fans happy and stay up but for me the focus is all on playing in this final.

“I want to win and everyone else wants to win. We are hungry and are going to be ready for this game.

“It’s been a different season (for Everton). I’m sure the lads are working hard. I’m at Hearts at the minute so I’m looking forward to the final.

“It’s a massive game ahead, we need to remain focused, train well and give ourselves the best chance to win this game.

“The semi-final goal was special. It helped get us to where we are. It’s gone now though, we want to win the final and not just be part of it. We have worked hard to get to where we are and we are really looking forward to the occasion.”

Simms only joined Hearts in January but has established himself as a major player under Robbie Neilson. So impressive has his loan stint been that Neilson is keen on keeping Simms past this summer.

But the striker insists any decision on his future will have to be made by Everton with him under contract until

to score. I’ve not really played that much up front. It’s one I’m still adapting to. But if it means I play in the next game then so be it.

“Kem just says to always move around. You see him playing and he is always on the go, always moving and always trying to anticipate.

“When I find out that I’m going to be playing up front, I speak a lot with Roy [Makaay]. He tells me some movements to do. He knows that I’m strong and can battle with defenders and back in and what-not.”
