Tavernier praises the class of 2022 as the best

- Chris Jack

JAMES TAVERNIER has hailed the class of 2022 as the best he has played with as Rangers attempt to follow in the footsteps of the Barcelona Bears.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side face Eintracht Frankfurt in the Europa League final aiming to become only the second team to bring European silverware back to Glasgow.

Victory in Seville would see Van Bronckhorst’s side earn their place in the history books and put them amongst some of the finest names to pull on the jersey.

Tavernier has been with Rangers every step of the way over the last seven seasons and will now lead them out at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium.

“Over the years we have recruited very good players, especially this team that I’m playing in now,” he said.

“It’s the best changing room I’ve been in. We’ve got a mixture of youth and experience.

“Come matchday, you now know one another and we will go to the death for one another.

“In any situation, I know the boys will prevail and the character of every single one of them will shine through. It’s a delight to be captain of these boys.”

Tavernier lifted his first major silverware as captain last term as Steven Gerrard’s side were crowned Premiership champions at the end of an unbeaten league campaign.

The right-back endured his fair share of setbacks and disappointments throughout his first seasons at Ibrox but he can now claim his place in history by leading Rangers to a famous European triumph.

Tavernier said: “Every day is different. Those finals were with different squads.

“I’ve just got to make sure that I’m the best version of myself tomorrow night, try to lead by example on the pitch and do the best I can.

“Hopefully that helps the lads and it can make this incredible journey special.”
