Rangers line-up 5-3-2

- Aidan Smith

ALLAN McGREGOR

Easily had his best season in a Rangers shirt last term, but has not hit the same heights. In saying that, the veteran goalkeeper has produced some of his best performances in Europe.

JAMES TAVERNIER (c)

The captain has led by example and his numbers from right-back have again been impressive. Remarkably, Tavernier is the top goalscorer in the Europa League with seven goals.

CONNOR GOLDSON

Uncertainty surrounds the defender’s future, whose contract expires in the summer. His displays certainly merit a big-money move, but it remains to be seen whether he will continue his spell in Glasgow.

JOHN LUNDSTRAM

Many had written him off and there was talk of a move away from Ibrox in January. Since then, the silky Scouser has been phenomenal – defensively strong, impressive on the ball and scoring key goals.

CALVIN BASSEY

Whether Bassey has been utilised at left-back or centrally, you always know what you are getting: a strong defensive display. The 22-year-old has had to bide his time, but is now a favourite amongst fans.

BORNA BARISIC

In and out under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, but back in at left-back to allow Calvin Bassey to play centrally in recent weeks. His delivery from the left could be a huge advantage against Frankfurt.

RYAN JACK

Injuries again plagued the first half of the season, but after recovering he has been so important. Battling qualities and ability to keep the ball under pressure allow others to go and express themselves.

GLEN KAMARA

Slipped out of the team for a period, but has battled his way into the reckoning recently and his performances have been back to their best. His energy and quality on the ball could prove vital.

JOE ARIBO

Stellar start eased off after the Africa Cup of Nations, but he is slowly regaining his form again. Has had to learn the No.9 role in recent weeks with strikers out injured. A big performance needed.

SCOTT WRIGHT

Admits himself that he has only been in the team of late due to injuries, but he has shown how much the opportunity means to him. Always gives 100 per cent and does have a spark in the final third.

RYAN KENT

A key performer in Europe. His pace and trickery are a joy to watch and with no recognised striker, Rangers will rely on a big creative shift from him in the final third.

The bench

Could prove key for Rangers late on as the final will likely be a tight contest. The return of Kemar Roofe is a welcome boost, while Fashion Sakala and Amad Diallo certainly could impact the game with legs tiring. Both have scored in recent weeks so confidence should be high. The experience of Scott Arfield, Aaron Ramsey and Steven Davis could also be utilised from the bench to see the game out, while Alex Lowry provides a youthful alternative if need be.
