Digital tech is turning human race into robots

- WM McCarron

THE generosity of the human spirit never ceases to amaze me, not least when I see the plentiful donations made to food bank donation points in supermarkets.

Although what I see is the list of items on them isn’t always read or applied by those who kindly donate items.

Not only does it say items they’re low in stock of, but also what they DON’T need.

Please bear this in mind if buying for them.

So sad in this day and age we need them.

I dread to think how people in poverty would cope without them. Politicians must do more.

AS someone who was born in the 1930s, it saddens me to see the use of digital technology turning the human race into robots.

I wrote my first computer program in the 1960s and went on to teach computing.

In those days computers were a tool used in numerous industries.

Now, when I look out of my window I see groups of schoolchildren walking to and from their schools, either primary or secondary.

They all have one thing in common.

They are all on social media, and only converse to show each other what is on their screen.

At the shopping centre, mothers completely ignore their baby or infant child.

They are too engrossed with the device in their hand. This is the alien life these children are born into.

In restaurants and cafes, it is now the norm to see people dining out with friends and/or relatives. Nobody is talking, except when showing someone something on their smart phone.

I wonder how many of them moaned about not being able to see friends and relatives during the lockdown.

The same people they don’t talk to when they do meet up.

CHIEF Inspector Natalie Carr is asking for the public’s help in helping prevent youth disorder and drug dealing in Glasgow city centre.

What the police should not forget is the majority of the people of Glasgow do not live in the city centre and we all face the same problems.

And a lot of the problems started about five years ago when the local community cops were taken off their beat, now you have to phone 101 to speak to someone at a call centre.
