Bain follows Grahamslaw to Channel Islands club
HAMISH BAIN, who was released by Glasgow at the end of the season, has become the latest Scottish player to be signed by ambitious English Championship side Jersey Reds.
Earlier this week the Channel Islands club announced that they had recruited prop forward Sam Grahamslaw from Edinburgh, and they already have two other Scots props, ex-Ayrshire Bulls player Steven Longwell and former Warriors man Adam Nicol, on their books.
Lock forward Bain, who played for Boroughmuir in the Super6 Sprint Series which concluded last week, joined Glasgow in the summer of 2020 shortly after Danny Wilson took over as head coach. Born in Edinburgh, he is a former Scotland Under-20 cap, and was recruited by Glasgow after two years playing for Stade Nicois in France.
Meanwhile, Scottish Rugby have declined to comment on a report that Todd Blackadder could take over as head coach at Scotstoun in place of Wilson, who was sacked last week following a run of disappointing results for the Warriors. Blackadder, the 50-year-old former All Blacks captain, played for Edinburgh from 2001 to 2004 and was hugely influential in driving up standards on and off the field. He became an assistant coach with the capital club, working with Frank Hadden, and acted as head coach for a time after Hadden became Scotland coach in place of Matt Williams.
On returning to New Zealand, Blackadder first coached with the Tasman union, then worked for seven years from 2009 with the Crusaders. He was then director of rugby at Bath, and since 2019 has been working in Japan as head coach of the Toshiba Brave Lupus.
Although Murrayfield have not confirmed their interest, Blackadder is understood to be keen on taking up a role at Glasgow.
