Newell sees McGeady skills up close in Portugal

-

JOE NEWELL has revealed that new signing Aiden McGeady has already been entertaining his Hibernian team-mates – by rolling out a trademark nutmeg.

The former Celtic and Republic of Ireland winger joined the capital side on Friday, just in time to fly out for the club’s warm-weather training camp in Portugal.

And McGeady has wasted no time in showcasing his skills, with January signing Runar Hauge his unfortunate “victim”. Newell said: “The new lads have settled in well. I’ve seen a McGeady nutmeg for the first time! It was on poor Runar and that got the whole crowd going.

“They’ve all settled in well and that’s what these weeks are all about – getting the new lads all together and the team spirit going and stuff.

“The gaffer’s getting his ideas across and a lot of it is to do with getting the fitness back and getting back into it. It’s enjoyable but good work at the same time.”

Hibs left Scotland on Sunday and were put through their paces with a triple session on Monday.

But Newell admits there can be no grumbles about the hard work given their surroundings.

He added: “We spent a long day travelling and then got the legs moving at night, and then had our first proper sessions [on Monday]. It was good – good hard work. It was a tough day but we can’t complain can we? We’re in Portugal in the sun!”

Meanwhile, new signing Momodou Bojang has not been able to link up with Hibs in Portugal as the club awaits a work permit for the Gambian striker. However, fellow new recruits Lewis Miller and Jair Tavares have met their new team-mates for the first time since signing.
