Magic Matt made more than just Caitlin’s special day

-

THERE’S a whole lotta love out there for Glasgow Taxi drivers and I won’t hear any different.

I see this every day to be fair, you just don’t always hear about it – or sense it on social media.

Search for Glasgow Taxis on Twitter for example and you’ll get a proper Woolworths-style pick n mix bag of customer feedback.

(Might have picked the worst social media channel as an example there, I mean who “takes to Twitter” to share praise? A select few).

In the real world however – I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again – there are hundreds of small, goodwill gestures being delivered by Glasgow Taxi drivers along with our punters, day in, day out.

This came to mind last week when I spotted a Glasgow Times story shared on the Glasgow Times Facebook page – “Big-hearted Glasgow Taxi driver makes schoolgirl’s day with touching gesture”.

With a headline like that, you can’t really do anything other than click on through to read all about it.

And I wasn’t the only one – from that one solitary Facebook post there were more than 300 likes, 25 comments and 18 shares. It got a similar reaction when it was shared elsewhere.

So, what was the story? Well, after taking part in the recent children’s charity outing to Troon and winning second prize in the best dressed competition, driver Matt turned up at the school of the pupil he’d driven to Troon and back the previous week and surprised her by gifting her his trophy and some chocolates.

I know – what a superstar, eh!

Here’s just a few of the comments on that Glasgow Times Facebook post:

“Fantastic, that’s brilliant well done to you and all the wonderful drivers who give their time taking vulnerable kids to Troon I applaud you all.” “Well done Matt ... such a kind thing to do.” “We need more people like these taxi drivers.” Magic eh, just absolutely magic.

When I read the story it made my day – so, Matt, your gesture went a long way, way beyond Caitlin. Thanks pal.

But it doesn’t surprise me. As I said, there’s a whole lot of love out there for Glasgow Taxi drivers thanks to these little things we do which make a small difference every day.

And thanks to the Glasgow Times for shining a light on it.

Stay safe.
