ScotRail issues travel advice ahead of gigs

- BY SARAH CAMPBELL

SCOTRAIL has issued travel advice ahead of two major music events in the city’s Southside this weekend. Gig-goers are advised to plan in advance for travelling to Calvin Harris at Hampden Park tomorrow and Primal Scream at Queen’s Park Recreational Ground tonight and tomorrow.

The firm has said that it will add “extra carriages to as many trains as possible” from Glasgow Central to Mount Florida (the closest station to Hampden Park) to accommodate a surge in passengers.

Regular commuters who use Neilston services should also be aware that trains may be much busier than normal today with people travelling to see Primal Scream.

Customers are urged to check their journey and consider their travel options, as there will be no trains departing Mount Florida back to Glasgow Central after the Calvin Harris concert finishes due to the temporary timetable currently in place.

Phil Campbell, ScotRail head of customer operations, said: “We’re urging everyone who’s travelling to see Calvin Harris at Hampden Park, or Primal Scream at Queen’s Park Recreational Ground, this weekend to plan ahead, check their journey, and consider their travel options.

“To help people get to the gigs, we’ll be adding extra carriages to trains from Glasgow Central to Mount Florida, however, these services are expected to be very busy, so we’d encourage customers to travel early if they can.

“Customers should be aware that there will be no trains from Mount Florida, King’s Park, or Queen’s Park back to Glasgow after the concerts finish, so please check your entire journey and know what alternative transport is available.

“A queuing system will be in place at Glasgow Central before events, and we’ll have extra staff there to help and direct you.”

Train services out of Glasgow city centre after 11pm tomorrow are as follows:

•Glasgow Central to East Kilbride, 11.17pm

•Glasgow Central to Gourock, 11.21pm

•Glasgow Central to Stirling, 11.22pm

•Glasgow Central to Ayr, 11.30pm

•Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh Waverley, 11.45pm.
