Cat fighting for his life after bleach attack

- BY LAUREN BROWNLIE

ACAT is in critical condition after being attacked with bleach. Rambo is currently fighting for his life in an induced coma at the Glasgow Vet School, after being transferred from the PDSA.

His owner Linda McDonald told the Glasgow Times that if he pulls through, one of his legs will have to be amputated due to being so badly burned.

The soft tissue team at the vet school will also have to carry out skin grafts.

Rambo wandered home at 2.45pm last Friday after being doused in the “thick, undiluted” bleach.

It’s not known who hurt him or why.

Rambo has been left with severe burns to his nose, mouth, throat, gullet, legs, paws and torso following the attack.

He has had to be sedated to have his skin, which is badly infected, cleaned. He has also been taking several medications including methadone, antibiotics and pain relief.

Linda fears he may have to be put to sleep if his condition does not improve.

She said: “Please be aware that this was a deliberate act as he had dry patches on his head and chest, so the vet ruled out him falling into chemicals or being submerged.

“The vet thinks he was backed into a corner or dead- end and couldn’t escape.

“If you have pets, especially cats, that are out and about, please be careful and mindful because if someone can do this once then the responsible person can do it again.”

Following the sickening attack, Linda’s friend set up a fundraising page to help pay for the costly vet bills.

Linda had to pay £ 1000 upfront, and the rest of the bill is expected to cost thousands of pounds.

So far, more than £ 7000 has been raised by kind- hearted members of the public who want to help.

This will go towards the vet bills and any medication needed going forward.

Linda said: “I can’t thank every one of you enough for donating to the GoFundMe as well as my sister and friends that have been helping me for pay for Rambo’s fees until the fundraising page closes.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101.
