Glasgow Life reveals festive opening hours for venues across city

GLASGOW Life has confirmed the opening hours for its venues over the festive period. Many public libraries across the city will be open on Christmas Eve from 10am to 2pm, apart from the Mitchell Library which will be open from 9am.

In addition, Most libraries will be open from Wednesday, December 28 until Saturday 31.

Glasgow Life library cards can also be used online so users can access a range of eBooks, eMagazines and eMusic from home.

Museums will remain open until 5pm on Friday, December 23.

Visitors can enjoy venues such as the Burrell Collection, Kelvingrov­e Art Gallery and Museum and Riverside Museum from Tuesday 27 until December 30.

They will reopen again on Tuesday, January 3.

Glasgow Club venues and swimming pools will be open in the run- up to Christmas, with some, including the Emirates Arena, Glasgow Club Bellahoust­on and Glasgow Club Scotstoun, remaining open on Christmas Eve and welcoming customers from December 27 to 31.

Tennis and bowls facilities at Kelvingrov­e, Queen’s Park, Knightswoo­d, and Garrowhill are open until Christmas Eve.

Glasgow Royal Concert Hall will open on Christmas Eve and at certain times from December 27 to 30.

It will close for Hogmanay and New Year’s Day before welcoming back people on January 2.

The City Halls and Fruitmarke­t will be closed from Monday, December 20 until Sunday, December 8.

Bailie Annette Christie, chair of Glasgow Life, said: “There are plenty of opportunit­ies to enjoy what Glasgow Life has to offer over the festive period. People can take the time to visit worldclass museums like the Burrell Collection or Riverside for free.

“Our libraries offer a warm place for people to enjoy a book or for children to participat­e in fun activities. Glaswegian­s can also keep fit at Glasgow Club venues across the city.”

Harper Collins has also gifted 5000 children’s books to Glasgow Life Libraries. These will be wrapped and can be picked up from libraries in the lead- up to Christmas. Children can also enjoy the free Christmas Reading Challenge and will get a certificat­e and colour- in bookmarks if they borrow and read three books.
