Family left devastated after Lapland holiday is cancelled
AFAMI LY we r e l e f t devastated after their flight to Lapland was cancelled due to snow. Allison and Craig Hannah had been due to fly from Glasgow Airport yesterday morning to take their eight- year- old daughter Paige to the winter wonderland for the day along with her gran Joanna McDonald.
The family woke up at 3.30am to travel to the airport from their home in Prestwick and were scheduled to fly at 8am.
They boarded their flight and were initially told there would be an hour delay because the runway was closed, but after almost three hours the flight was cancelled.
Allison says Paige has been left “devastated” at not being able to go to Lapland after they surprised her with the trip yesterday morning.
She said: “There are no words for seeing my child so upset.
“I woke her up this morning, we’ve kept it a surprise, so to wake her up this morning, the video is priceless, to her crying a couple of hours later.”
Allison has now hit out at Glasgow Airport, saying she believes it was ‘ unprepared’ for the snow after an amber weather alert was put in place.
She said: “Glasgow Airport has not been prepared.
“We’ve sat on a plane for three hours going nowhere, with a plane full of children.
“As you can imagine, the tears from all these children disappointed, it’s ridiculous.”
She added: “We were getting picked up by a reindeer and sleigh to take us to Lapland, there were snowmobiles, there were husky rides, there was an igloo to meet Santa, she had her letter to take to him.
“We’ve lost loved ones and she wanted them back from Heaven.”
However, the family later received the good news that they have been rebooked by Stewart Travel to go to Lapland on Friday, December 23, just in time for Paige to deliver her letter to Santa.
Allison said: “They have pulled it out the bag and they’ve managed to put another trip together.
“We’re ecstatic.
“We were worried waiting for another year and it wouldn’t be the same because of the age she’s at, but we’re absolutely delighted Stewart Travel and Canterbury
Travel have tried to rectify this and so quick as well.
“We’ll need to move a few things about but we’ll make it work.”
A Glasgow Airport spokesperson said: “Our runway was cleared for operation shortly after 11.30am and we are now working with our airline partners to help resume their flight schedules.
“The winter operations team will remain in place and we will continue to monitor weather conditions.
“While adverse weather conditions can be disruptive and frustrating, the safety of our passengers and people must always come first.
“We would like to thank our passengers for their continued patience and ask that they continue to check with their airlines regarding the status of their flights.”
