Primary school praised for ‘ positive, inclusive culture’ during inspection

-

A GORBALS primary school has been praised for its “positive, inclusive culture” following a recent inspection.

A review of St Francis Primary School and Nursery Class, on Old Rutherglen Road, stated the inspection found it resulted in “all children feeling care for and valued”.

It continued that the focus on children’s and their family’s wellbeing in the school and nursery “is having a significantly positive impact on those children facing the greatest challenges in their learning”.

The inspection, by Education Scotland, also found the school’s approach to supporting children new to the English language helps them learn to speak it confidently in a short time, allowing them to settle into school and make friends. It further highlighted the effective leadership of all practitioners in the nursery which supports all the children in the nursery to make “very good progress”.

However, the inspection found the school should develop it’s approach to how data is analysed to identify improvement and senior leaders should support staff to develop their leadership.

It also found that children should be given more opportunities to take ownership of their learning and it should continue to raise attainment across the school and nursery.

The findings were identified and discussed with the headteacher and a representative from Glasgow City Council.

Education Scotland stated no further visits to the school are required in connection with the inspection.

Glasgow City Council will inform parents/ carers about the school’s progress as part of its arrangements for reporting on the quality of its schools.
