Readers share views on autism event at carnival

- Michael Thomson

READERS had their say on our Facebook page about the autism session at the Irn- Bru Carnival.

WE’VE always found it to be more autism- friendly on regular days with the ride access pass.

We tried the autism- friendly session once a few years ago and never again, it was a shambles in my view and we left early.

We went on NYE for six to seven hours with our two autistic kids, and they had a great day, only one ride owner was making issues with the ride access pass, but the organisers sorted it out quickly enough.

I WAS there with my autistic son on this day.

Yeah, the queue was long but going down fast.

Once on the rides they were not busy at all. My kids didn’t wait long for any rides they went on.

The place was pretty quiet and my kids had a great time.

The only issue we had was the majority of toilets only had handdryers which my son absolutely hates due to the noise, so had to dry his hands on my top.

I WENT with my daughter – it was so busy. We went on four rides and ended up leaving as there were too many people. We won’t be going back.

THEY obviously don’t know how to do it properly.

I think the carnival should do some more research and should ask parents for advice and maybe it could work for the kids. That’s just my opinion.

Mark Donald

I WENT yesterday – most rides were 40 minutes- plus to get on. The place was mobbed. It was a total joke with the number of people they let in at the one time! Kaye Lindsay

INSTEAD of complaining about it – help the organisers to get it right next time.

The technical issues happen but the organisers need help addressing the wide range of autistic needs and none better than the parents to provide advice.

I am sure this event was done with the best of intentions and will learn to do it better.
