SNP will not magically fix all Scotland’s issues if we choose to be independent

- Tim Cox

IHAVE just read Nicola Sturgeon’s claim “Scotland must have the right to decide its own future in 2023”. Scotland decided against Independence in the referendum held in September 2014.

The SNP fell one seat short of having a clear majority in the Scottish Parliamentary election in May 2021. They rely on the Green Party for support.

Scotland is now one of the filthiest countries in the world. If the SNP was a majority party in government, the Green Party would be up on their feet demanding debates and action, in Holyrood, on this issue.

I am enclosing a photo of the area across the street from my house. Litter, including bottles, is dumped here on a daily basis.

This will stop with independence?

WELL that’s 60 days now since I first reported two streetlights out across the street from me.

Council call centre workers who work from their homes told me it would take up to 60 days to fix them. I am incredulous that this ineffective, inefficient lighting department is getting away with this.

How slow and how many council workers does it take to change/ fix a lightbulb? Council managers need to get switched on or get replaced. No doubt they too are maybe working from the house. Bill Love

DONALD MacLeod was quite right when he spoke out regarding the lack of transport for getting in and out of the city at night, though services during the day are just as expensive and unreliable.

If Glasgow has any aspiration to be seen as a modern and welcoming city for tourists and locals and for our city centre to prosper, the City Council must work with all relevant bodies and sort out the desperately poor public transport.

NO surprises at the headline news that Glasgow Council only paid out on a mere 1.2% of claims for cars damaged by potholes ( 45 out of a total of 3537 claims).

They are far too busy dodging their responsibility to road users and avoiding accepting responsibility for the poorest roads in the country.

In a city with one of the highest council tax rates in the country the very least we can expect is for decent roads and for the “keepers” to cough up when their hopeless repairs programme repeatedly fails.

A council spokesperson stated “71% of Glasgow’s roads are in an acceptable condition” – which also means, to anyone who can count, that 29% are clearly not! Also I nearly fell off my chair with laughter when the spokesperson stated “we seek to ensure repairs are permanent at the first time of asking”.

What planet are they on? Botched repairs at the same locations constantly reoccur and no- one is blocking payments to the contractors!

Glasgow drivers must make a stand! If the council rejects your claim then take it to the Small Claims Court, at present they are getting away with it.

PRESIDENT Putin proudly announces that a Russian frigate carrying hypersonic missiles is transiting the Atlantic from Arctic water to the Black Sea in order to commit further criminal and lethal devastation in Ukraine.

The vessel should be intercepted and sunk at sea before it reaches the Mediterranean. A convenient large target, as Putin once said.
